Sue Joy Allen is a self-taught artist whose 25 years of living in various countries have shaped her cultural perspective within her work and life. From an early age, Sue was captivated by the Impressionists. This early inspiration has remained a guiding force in her work, informing her sensitivity to mood, atmosphere, and the interplay of colour and light.
Sue’s art is a celebration of joy, often reflecting the positive, uplifting moments that life offers. Her themes are multifaceted, shifting from tranquil landscapes and serene still lifes to more abstract, emotive pieces that challenge the viewer’s perception. This versatility is one of the hallmarks of her style, as she allows her intuition to guide the initial stages of each painting. Only after this instinctive exploration does she begin to refine her work, letting objective elements emerge and solidify the final composition.
While Sue began her artistic journey with watercolours, she has since expanded her repertoire, exploring a variety of mediums that allow her to push the boundaries of her creativity. Her process is both deliberate and organic, merging careful technique with a spontaneous, instinctual flow that captures the essence of her subjects.
